Troy Carnes - 4th Grade Boys Head Coach

Basketball Expereince: 10 years experience as Varsity Girls Head Basketball Coach at Davidson Academy, Beech High School, and Jackson Preparatory School (MS). 8 years experience as Varsity Boys Head Basketball Coach at Pillow Academy (MS), Jackson Academy (MS), and Woodland Hills Baptist Academy (MS). 25 years total basketball coaching experience. 3 State Championships as Varsity Girls Head Coach at Jackson Prep (MS).

Personal Fact: Graduate of the University of Mississippi-B.S. in Accounting (1987); High School English Teacher (1991-2020); United States Army Special Forces (1984-1987); Published novelist-Rasputin's Legacy (2010), Dudgeons and Daggers (2016); Married 12 years (Wife - Courtney; 2 Children - Colt and Caleb)

Why do you choose to coach youth basketball: I love working with young boys and girls, teaching the game of basketball, instilling life lessons, inspiring great effort, and praising God for His amazing gifts. Youth sports provides the greatest opportunity at the most influential age to make a positive difference in young lives. I am inspired by their energy, encouraged by their innocence, and blessed by their hearts.

Nick Rose - 5th Grade Boys Head Coach

Basketball Expereince: Coached multiple youth sports' teams for the last 11 years ranging from 1st grade through 6th grade.

Personal Fact: Married for almost 20 years to a Godly woman and teacher at Station Camp High School. We have 3 wonderful kids (Riley - 11th, Reagan - 8th, & Ryan - 5th). Graduated from MTSU with a B.B.A. and from TSU with an. M.B.A.

Why do you choose to coach youth basketball: I love helping young athletes learn how to work hard and push themselves to achieve their goals.

Glen Clem - 6th Grade Boys Head Coach

Basketball Expereince: Upward Stars Boys (2017 - Present). Played basketball for Vanderbilt University 1983-1987 (4 Year Letterman), NY Knicks 1987: 5th Round Draft Choice, Professional Basketball ('87 - '90) Continental Basketball Association

Personal Fact: B.A. Economics, 1987 Vanderbilt University. 20+ years as VP of Sales or Director of Sales. Current job: Director of Sales, Delk, Inc.,Nashville, TN. Married for 16 Years (Wife - Gretta, 2 Children - Glen III, Jackson)

Why do you choose to coach youth basketball: I enjoy helping young men grow as people, as Christians, and as an athlete. It brings me great pleasure to see them improve each week and watch the smiles that come to their face when positive results occur. I simply enjoy teaching kids that through hard work, a strong belief in Jesus, and a relentless desire to do your best, they can make anything happen.

JT Jones - 7th Grade Boys Head Coach

Basketball Expereince: Head JV and Assistant Girls Basketball Coach for White House High School (2018-2019); Upward Stars Boys (2018-present) ; Played Basketball for the University of Valley Forge (2013); Welch College (2014-2018) - 3 year captain and scored over 1700 points.

Personal Fact: Graduated from Welch College (2018)- Majored in Business Administration; Currently in Masters of Teaching program at Welch College. Currently, a Middle School Educator at The Edison School in Gallatin, Tennesse; Also, the Head Varsity Girls High School and Middle School Coach for Christian Community School.

Why do you choose to coach youth basketball: Basketball has always been a love of mine. It has always kept me out of trouble and always gave me something to work for. My high school coaches made a huge difference in my life. Every coach, over the years, shaped me into the man that I am today. I have a passion for basketball and a passion for kids. Just as my coaches impacted my life, I too hope that I might impact a player's life. I always had a dream of playing pro ball, but my biggest dream is helping kids pursue their goals and dreams. I am also a believer, and basketball gives me the platform to be able to share the gospel with kids.

Todd Gerlach - 9th Grade Boys Head Coach

Personal Fact: Graduate from Kettering University - Mechanical Engineering (1996); President of Genesee A&B manufacturing company; Married for 20+ years (Wife - Kelly; 3 children - Bryce, Cameron, JG - all 3 Upward Star alumni)

Why do you choose to coach youth basketball: Sports and professional careers are extremely similar. Learning to work as a team, communication skills, working through adversity, team working to one common goal, understanding your role and performing to the best of your ability. I believe these skills set developed in sports help our young people be more successful later in life. I love giving back and helping teach these life lessons in a positive manner while spreading the word of the God.

Bryce Gerlach - 9th Grade Boys Assistant Coach

Personal Fact: Graduate of Station Camp High School (2018); current student at Belmont University (class of 22)

Why do you choose to coach youth basketball: Not only are you helping the young men become better basketball players, more importantly, you are shaping them into better men. I've had coaches throughout my life who have impacted who I am today and being able to return the favor to these young men is a blessing and something that I don't take for granted.
